Via Christi Health Systems is upgrading their Synapse installation. This Synapse release adds new functionality as well as an updated look and feel. Below are instructions and a link to a file that will update your version of Synapse. It should ONLY be used for machines that currently connect to the vcpx.via-christi.org Synapse data source.

Synapse servers at Via Christi are scheduled to be upgraded on Tuesday 3/11/2014 at 9:00 PM CDT. Clients that have NOT been upgraded will not be able to access servers that have been upgraded. Therefore, please plan to upgrade Synapse workstations at your location the evening of 3/11/2014 or the morning of 3/12/2014.

It is important that each computer to be upgraded to our Synapse (PACS) system be logged on by a person with Administrator login rights.  The Synapse Automatic Workstation upgrade will not work correctly otherwise.

Steps to upgrade/install your Synapse installation are below:

1. Verify the machine utilizes the vcpx.via-christi.org datasource by right-clicking the Synapse icon on the desktop, selecting "Properties", and ensuring "vcpx.via-christi.org" is in the address line.

If Synapse is not already installed on this machine, skip to step 2.

If the vcpx.via-christi.org line does not appear as below - STOP - please contact Via Christ Service Center at 350-3838 for assistance with upgrading. They will create a support ticket for someone to call you with assistance.

2. Close all applications running on the machine.

3. Click here to run the install file. (DO NOT RUN THIS FILE ON A PRODUCTION PC UNTIL AFTER 9:00PM MARCH 11, 2014)

After a short delay a dialog box similar to below will appear - select the "Run" button.

The installation will begin.

If you get any other prompts, please accept them.

When the install dialog box goes away, the installation has completed.

After installation completes, boot the machine.

After booting, Synapse should run normally once the upgrade of the servers is complete on the morning of July 9.  The new version of Synapse contains a number of new enhancements but the basic functionality remains the same.

Please call the Via Christi Service Center at 350-3838 if you experience problems.

This pocket guide does not detail changes in this release, but it does provide a good reference tool for the Synapse application in general.  If you would like more information about the new features, please call Ron Griffin at 316-268-5368.
