Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, is a less invasive, non-surgical outpatient procedure which can determine if an abnormality is cancerous. Until recently, all breast biopsies were surgical procedures which required a trip to the operating room. Now, computerized imaging equipment allows radiologists and surgeons to perform the breast biopsy quickly and painlessly.
Stereotactic breast biopsy is as accurate as traditional surgical biopsy, but it decreases the amount of tissue removed for diagnosis and minimizes any scarring to the breast. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in our Women's Imaging Center.
