Social workers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social and emotional problems that relate to illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with patients and families to help them deal with long-term illness and rehabilitation. Social workers are also involved in discharge planning.

Advance Care Planning brochures containing a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care Decision form are available at the main entrance Information Desk, Registration Department, Community Relations Department, Pastoral Care, Social Services and all nursing stations. If you have questions or need assistance, members from any of the departments listed will be pleased to assist you.
The Ethics Committee serves those who need a forum with consultation, discussion, support and assistance in facing choices or resolving ethical dilemmas with healthcare decisions. Patients or family member wishing to speak with a member of the Ethics Committee for educational or consulting services may do so by asking their physician, nurse, chaplain, social worker or by contacting the Vice-President of Mission Services.
The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel is located near the main entrance and is open to patients and visitors of any denomination. Please contact the Pastoral Services department for times of Masses or other chapel events. Daily prayer services are held at 9 a.m. and a second service is held at 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Chapel activities are broadcast live to patient rooms. To access this channel, tune your television set to channel 90.
The Pastoral Services department has chaplains on staff to offer emotional and spiritual comfort and guidance to patients and their families. This team is available to enhance the physical recovery of the patient and offer compassion and support in times of crisis. Your priest, minister, rabbi or church representative is, of course, welcome to visit. The Pastoral Services department may be contacted between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at EXT. 148 or by dialing the hospital operator.
