The Via Christi PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program offering a broad range of pharmacy practice experience. The program is conducted at Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita, Kansas, which are acute care, teaching hospitals. It offers positions for up to four residents yearly.
The program provides experience in a variety of settings, focusing on the core areas of practice specified in the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacy Accreditation Standards, including patient care and practice management. The program is staffed by highly trained and respected clinical practitioners who are allotted dedicated time in their area of practice. This allows flexibility for the resident to focus on special areas of interest.
Via Christi serves as a primary teaching site for medical residents and students, pharmacy students, as well as other health care professions. Approximately 250 physician residents and 100 medical students pursue their education and training in Wichita each year.
This level of educational activity fosters an environment of collaborative patient care, provides access to innovative and cutting-edge treatment and offers many opportunities to collaborate and lead as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Upon completion of the program, the clinical pharmacist will be ready to apply his or her skills in direct patient care, exhibit excellent decision-making skills, and provide education and leadership in the care of patients.
