The Mount Carmel Foundation was established in 1983 by a group of local citizens committed to quality health care for our community, with the purpose of supporting Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds through philanthropy, grants, planned giving and special events to enhance the quality of health care in Southeast Kansas.

In 2010 the Mount Carmel Foundation made a pledge to raise $1.2  million of the $8.2 million for the Women's Services Initiative for Via Christi Hospital. The project will encompass the entire 3rd floor of Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. With the renovations, Via Christi Hospital will improve the quality of health care through expansion and technological advancements.
