The Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) at Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg - a 10-bed unit located on the medical center's second floor - is designed to meet the special physical and cognitive rehabilitative needs of qualified individuals who have experienced a disabling injury, illness or surgery. Our goal is to return individuals to a functional level that enables them to regain as much independence as possible, as quickly as possible.
Advanced treatment programs are offered for medical conditions including - but not limited to - stroke, hip fractures, arthritis, amputation, neurologic disorders, and general orthopedics.
Our rehabilitation program helps patients with physical impairments that limit functional abilities, a need for assistance in performing daily living functions, medical complications that cause a decline in physical function, or a recent disability.
All patients admitted to the ARU receive comprehensive care from a team of trained professionals under the direction of a rehabilitation physician, who works closely with the patient's personal physician to ensure continuity of care.
Evaluation and treatment provided to our inpatients may include:
- Rehabilitative Nursing
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Speech and Language Pathology

- Recreational Therapy
- Social Services
- Therapeutic Nutritional and Dietary Services
- Pastoral Care

The Via Christi ARU provides a comfortable, family-oriented atmosphere with therapy individualized to meet each patient's physical, spiritual, cultural and emotional needs.
