Obstacle running event to benefit children with own hurdles to overcome

In April, Hard Charge™ will be bringing a televised obstacle racing series to the Wichita area — and in doing so help sick and injured Kansas children and their families.

Hard Charge Wichita/Park City, which will be held on April 20 on the grounds of the Kansas Coliseum, is an intense, but fun fitness event featuring four miles of unpredictable terrain and more than 20 challenging obstacles. It is one of seven Hard Charge events that will be held nationwide in 2013.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Via Christi Health, which serves 64 counties in south-central and western Kansas by providing direct medical assistance to children and their families for needs not covered by insurance.

“For many of the children and families we serve, getting through each day can be a tremendous challenges,” says Jill Bosley, Via Christi’s director of Development for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.“So we greatly appreciate Hard Charge’s decision to help us help them.”

Hard Charge events consists of two primary heats: Charge for Fun, in which participants can go at their own pace and choose to bypass tougher obstacles, and Charge for Glory, for which heats are timed and marshaled and qualifying individuals and teams go on to compete in a final, televised charge that same day.

The televised charge will be part of  a series that starting in June will be syndicated on networks around the country. Each episode will highlight competitors’ journeys and personal stories in working toward competing in a race designed to test their courage, strength and stamina.

The entire Hard Charge event, including a post-race party with music, food and beverages, is free and open to spectators of all ages.

Registration is open now and will run through April 17. Additional details, including the complete pricing schedule, are available at HardCharge.com/wichita.

Volunteer opportunities also are available at the event. For every 25 volunteers that register for a shift during the event, CMN Hospitals at Via Christi Health will receive a donation of $500. For more information on volunteer opportunities, go to the Hard Charge website.
