Ena Burke At 104, Ena Burke says it is wonderful to have been given the chance to live so long and meet so many wonderful people.

"I am thankful to the Lord for all his blessings and my good health," she smiles.

Born Feb. 1, 1907 in Harper County, Kan., Ena had one older brother. She went to Emporia State for two years then spent one year in business school in Wichita.

After passing the civil service exam, Ena went with 3,000 people from all over the United States to Baltimore, Md. in December of 1936 to work at the first Social Security Office. She stayed three years and then transferred to the field.

Upon retiring from the Social Security Office in December of 1966, Ena traveled all over the U.S. She doesn't think there is a single national park in the United States that she has not seen. She also visited Canada many times.

Ena moved to Georgetown Village (now Via Christi Village on Georgetown) in 1990, living for 16 years in independent living and the last two in assisted living. On March 3 of 2009, she moved to the Riverside Village Court (now Via Christi Village on McLean).

Ena Burke ready for Go Western Day "The staff at the Village has been very kind and accommodating to all my needs," Ena says. Ena says that at 104 she is finally running out of steam, but she is never bored. She stays busy reminiscing about her wonderful memories of her 104 years.

"I met Ena when she moved in on March 3rd and was very impressed by her cheerful attitude and calm demeanor," says Samantha Seymour, activity director. "She has a remarkable memory and is a joy to be around."
