Chrissy Hall, RN: ‘I have time to get to know my patients’
“Chrissy was very personable and thorough. She always took the time to let me know what she was going to do before she did it.”
Chrissy Hall, a registered nurse who works in the Intensive Care Unit and in a Medical/Surgical Unit at Via Christi Hospital on St. Teresa, was born and raised in west Wichita.
Today, she and her three children, Kaylea, 15, Emily, 14, and Gunnar, 10, live in Maize, only minutes away from the hospital.
Her first career — as a stay-at-home mom — gave rise to her second one as a nurse.
"When I had my first child, I had such a great experience because of the nurse who cared for me,” said Hall. “I knew then that when my kids were older, that's what I wanted to do.”
In 1999, she went back to school and earned her nursing degree from Wichita State University. After working in the ER of another hospital for 5 ½ years, Hall decided she was ready for a change.
“I wanted to do more one-on-one care and to be closer to home,” said Hall, who joined the staff at Via Christi Hospital on St. Teresa in October.
Caring for patients after they’ve come through the ER allows her to spend more time with them and to follow their care all the way through to helping them get ready to go home.
“While I like the science of medicine, caring for and nurturing people has always given me the greatest satisfaction," said Hall. "Now I have time to get to know my patients and to really connect with them."
