Carl Rider joined Via Christi Health in April 2012 as interim senior vice president, Via Christi Health Hospitals. His title changed to chief clinical administrative officer in 2013 as part of a title structure change that occurred throughout Via Christi.
A veteran health care administrator, he has written and spoken on the subjects of medical group practice management, health care reform, quality improvement in health care, professional compensation administration and leadership development.
Rider spent the majority of his career at Mayo Clinic, serving as Chief Administrative Officer of Mayo Clinic of Jacksonville from its opening in 1986 through 1993. Since retiring from Mayo in 2008 he has served as a senior fellow with the Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy in Brooks College of Health at the University of North Florida. In 2010, he served as interim president and CEO of Mission Health System in Asheville, North Carolina.
He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and has a Masters of Public Health in Healthcare Administration from the University of California Berkeley.
