Abdul Bengali appointed senior vice president, Information Services, CIO for Via Christi
WICHITA, KAN. (Jan. 31, 2012) – Abdul Bengali has been appointed senior vice president of information services and chief information officer for Via Christi Health. He will begin his duties in late March.
Abdul comes to Via Christi from Mayo Clinic where he has served as Chief Information Officer since 2001. He joined Mayo in 1977 as a lead systems programmer and progressed to division chair, department vice chair and then his present position as department chair and CIO.
Abdul is responsible for Mayo Clinic unified Information Technology which covers the Mayo enterprise and includes 1,200 IT staff and 400 contracted staff. He collaborated with Medical Practice, Education, Research and Administration senior leadership to develop a 12-year IT roadmap that aligns with the Mayo Clinic strategic plan. The roadmap’s goal is to provide a unified, integrated, coordinated and standard IT environment to promote a culture of safety, quality, service and innovation to meet the needs of the patient.
Abdul received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from California State Polytechnic University and holds an advanced degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota.
