Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis to open new outpatient pharmacy
Patients being discharged from the hospital or emergency department, as well as Via Christi employees and their dependents, soon will have a convenient new option for getting prescriptions filled: the outpatient pharmacy at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis.
The pharmacy, located in the hospital’s discharge hallway, is scheduled to open Aug. 12. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
“We look forward to bringing a high level of service and convenience to both our patients and our employees,” said Jim Garrelts, senior director of Pharmacy for Via Christi Health.
Pharmacist Karissa Bratcher will be available to provide patients, employees and staff with information, education and counseling about their medications.
Before patients leave the hospital, the pharmacy can deliver to their rooms the prescriptions they will need when they go home, and offer an in-room consultation with Bratcher via two-way video. This eliminates the need for patients to stop at their local pharmacy on the way home from the hospital, then wait for their prescriptions to be filled. If patients need to refill medications filled at the outpatient pharmacy, the pharmacist can transfer their prescription to the pharmacy of their choice.
Via Christi staff members and their dependents also will be able to have their prescriptions filled at the outpatient pharmacy, which will offer medications not usually stocked at traditional retail pharmacies as well as significantly discounted over-the-counter medications. The pharmacy also will be able to compound liquid and other forms of medications and, upon request, place special orders.
