Emerald Ball to benefit Gerard House and Via Christi Cancer Institute

Tickets are now available for the annual Via Christi Emerald Ball, an elegant – and fun – formal evening to benefit Gerard House, a shelter for pregnant teens, and Via Christi’s Cancer Institute.

This year’s ball is Saturday, March 16, at the Hyatt Regency Wichita’s Grand Eagle Ballroom, 400 W. Waterman. Cocktails are at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m., live and silent auctions, and dancing until midnight to the music of popular local band, "The Source."

Tickets are $125 a person or $1,200 for a table of 10 and are available for purchase online at, or by calling the Via Christi Foundation at 316-239-3520.

Among the other highlights of this year’s event: Exquisite table décor provided by local florists, gift shops and individuals Opportunities to purchase coins from the “pot-of-gold” and enter a grand prize drawing Irish step dancers and bagpipers performing during the social hour A turn-of-the-century dessert room including a fondue station, truffles from Cero's Candies and Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates, and a signature dessert station The premier Wine Room open during social hour for special ticket holders A photographer for formal pictures, or a photo booth for fun pictures

For 25 years, Via Christi’s Gerard House has provided a nurturing shelter for young women during their pregnancies and for a few months after delivery as they decide whether to keep and raise their children or place them with adoptive couples. At Gerard House they receive the medical care they need for a healthy pregnancy, learn life skills to become good parents and independent adults, and find help completing and furthering their education.

Gerard House also provides psychological, spiritual and adoption counseling to its residents. It’s the only state-licensed maternity home in the Wichita area that serves young women in the juvenile justice and foster care systems, and the only maternity home in Wichita that serves all in need, regardless of ability to pay.

The evening’s other beneficiary is Via Christi Cancer Institute, a cancer treatment and research facility that engages family and caregivers through a comprehensive and interactive treatment plan. In addition to healing the body, emphasis is also placed on a “rebirth” of mind and spirit.
