Wamego City Hospital ranks in 99th percentile
(WAMEGO, KS) -- Putting patients at the center of their care has earned Wamego City Hospital the highest possible patient satisfaction ranking. Three months in a row, the hospital has maintained a score in the 99th percentile in Press Ganey’s patient satisfaction survey.

Press Ganey is an industry leader in health care performance improvements. The company works with 50 percent of the hospitals in the United States to improve clinical and business outcomes.

“We recognize that the change in score was not random, but due to some change within your facility, and your patients have recognized this change,” reports Deb Stargardt, improvement manager for Press Ganey. Stargardt notes that Wamego City Hospital has increased its mean score by 6.8, a significant difference.

Tresha Flanary is director of nursing at the hospital. She explains that hospital staff focus on how they talk to patients about their health care, making sure that patients understand their care plan. When patients are discharged from the emergency room of the med/surgery floor, they receive a follow-up phone call from a nurse. They nurse makes sure that the patient is doing well and answers any questions the patient might have.

“I think the processes that we’ve put in place over the last couple of years have become hardwired and the staff sees the importance and the rewards of having happy patients,” she says. “We all work together to put the patient at the center of their care.”
