Mercy Regional Health Center

Melanie Ramsey RN, BSN, IBCLC, CBE
Melanie Ramsey is the manager of Mother's Essentials and the only international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) practicing in the Manhattan area. Melanie is available to assist mothers with everything from breastfeeding to bra fittings to breast pumps.

Melanie enjoys helping new parents learn the art of breastfeeding. Her responsibilities include educating expectant parents in the Breastfeeding Basics class, meeting with new parents in the hospital, and offering follow-up consultations by appointment after discharge. She also collaborates with physicians to ensure good management of breastfeeding and infant well-being.

Melanie earned her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1993 from Washburn University School of Nursing. She has worked as part of the Birth and Women's Center staff since 1995 — serving as a charge nurse, labor and delivery nurse, newborn nursery nurse and post-partum nurse. It was in these roles that Melanie gained experience helping mothers breastfeed, in addition to having breastfed her own children.

In 2001, Melanie became a certified breastfeeding educator and started working in the Lactation Services department. She was awarded her lactation consultant credentials in 2002 by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and was recertified in 2007 and 2012.

Melanie is supported by the Birth and Women's Center staff, many of whom are certified breastfeeding educators and skilled at providing support to breastfeeding families during their hospital stay.
