GraceMed to assume operations of Mother Mary Anne clinic Dec. 1
As of Dec. 1, Via Christi Immediate Care, Mother Mary Anne — established to offer after-hours, walk-in care available to uninsured, under-insured and insured patients — will become part of GraceMed Health Clinic.

The clinic, which has recorded more than 20,000 after-hours patient visits since opening its doors four years ago at 1152 S. Clifton, will continue to offer after-hours walk-in care.

It also will continue to bear the name of Mother Mary Anne McNamara, a long-time St. Joseph Hospital administrator and leader of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita.

But its name will be changed to GraceMed Mother Anne Clinic to reflect its new ownership. In addition, the clinic’s hours and services will be greatly expanded once remodeling of its new 4,100-square-foot space across the street has been completed this spring.

“Moving to that space, which previously was occupied by Via Christi Rehabilitation Clinic, will allow us to better meet the needs of patients in the Hilltop neighborhood by providing them with a medical home for follow-up care,” said David Sanford, GraceMed’s chief executive officer. “At the same time, we’ll continue to meet the community’s need for an after-hours, walk-in clinic dedicated to serving patients who are uninsured and underinsured.”

Once renovated, the new space will have nine exam rooms, allowing the clinic to offer a still-to-be determined scope of primary care services, including pediatrics, family medicine and dental care.

"We established the clinic in response to a community need,” said Sister Sherri Marie Kuhn, senior vice president of Mission Integration for Via Christi Hospitals Wichita. “There was no place that patients who were uninsured or underinsured could go for after-hours routine care other than the emergency room.”

"That need will continue to be met by GraceMed, whose mission is similar and compatible with ours,” she said. “But going forward, families living in the Hilltop neighborhood soon will have access to other much-needed primary care services, including dental care.”
