Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital reaches 30-year accreditation milestone

Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital once again has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities — marking 30 years of continuous accreditation by one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation facility accreditors.

Accredited by CARF through November 2013 for its inpatient adult, children and adolescent, and stroke specialty rehabilitation programs, the hospital also received two exemplary conformance awards for having met its goal of having certified rehabilitation registered nurses on each shift and for having maintained exceptional customer satisfaction scores over time.

“This award is a testament to our physicians’ and staff’s expertise as well as their dedication to patients and their families,” said Cindy LaFleur, president of Post Acute Care for Via Christi Hospitals Wichita. “When you’re committed to serving patients and their families, you want to make sure that you’re doing all you can to provide them with the best possible care and services.”

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities was founded in 1966 and touches close to 8.3 million individuals served in CARF-accredited organizations each year.

Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital, 1151 N. Rock Road, was first accredited by CARF in 1980 as part of St. Joseph Medical Center. Today, the 60-bed rehabilitation hospital provides rehabilitative care for stroke; brain, head, spinal cord, burn, orthopedic and sports injuries; neurological, sleep, and hearing and balance disorders; and amputations. Its 14 affiliated outpatient therapy clinics provide a full range of services, including physical, speech and occupational therapy. Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital also is accredited by The Joint Commission.

While accreditation by both accrediting bodies is voluntary, undergoing the rigorous peer review process and on-site survey for both accreditations demonstrates Via Christi’s continued commitment to providing quality rehabilitation programs and services.
