Allene Crain was born at her grandparent’s farm home near Osceola Missouri 89 years ago. She was raised in Kansas City where she met and married her High School sweetheart in 1942.
She has two sons, one living in Wichita and the other in Colorado. She also has 3 grandchildren.
While her husband was stationed in Indiana, Allene worked for a Zoology professor. After becoming pregnant with her first son she returned home to Kansas City. While in the service her husband became sick with rheumatic fever and endured a long hospital stay. While in the hospital he helped in the storage room.
After leaving the service her husband got a job at Boeing as a purchasing agent and buyer supervisor. Allene sold Avon for a couple of years and she also was employed at Boeing for a couple years. She enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and wife. While raising her sons she was very involved in her church groups and was responsible for starting many different small groups. She was also a volunteer for both of her son’s classrooms. She mentioned that she was always on the go but can’t remember where it was that she was always going.
I asked what brought her to VCV on Broadmoor? She replied that her youngest son is married to the daughter of one of the residents that resides at VCV on Broadmoor and they were very pleased with her care.” She was hospitalized for a short time and when she was released she moved into VCV on Broadmoor. Her son had told her that it was like a small Bed and Breakfast and she would have to agree.
