Born to a farm family in Marion, Vera Heidebrecht spent most of her childhood in St. Francis, KS. Her family moved back to Marion when she was a teenager and she graduated from Marion High School.
Prior to her marriage to Walter Heidebrecht in 1932, she worked as a waitress and also for a produce company. After they were married, Vera and Walter lived in Marion for eight years, and then moved to Hutchinson. World War II brought them to Wichita and Walter went to work at Boeing. They enjoyed 36 years together until Walter's death in 1968.
Their union was blessed with one son, Kenneth, who lives in Wichita. Vera also has one grandson, Mark, who lives in Olathe and one granddaughter, Denise, who lives in Wichita. The family has grown to include seven great-grandchildren.
Vera enjoyed traveling, and has visited most of the continental U.S. She also belonged to several garden clubs, including the Cactus Club. After Walter's death, Vera provided day care for several years.
She moved to Via Christi Village on Ridge on Aug. 30 of this year. On Nov. 21, she will celebrate her 100th birthday.
