Mary Ann Rauniker was born in Cherokee to Tony and Mary Rauniker. Her father worked for the Frisco Railroad for 34 years and came from a family of seven. Her mother was a twin and was raised with 16 other siblings from the West Mineral area.
Mary Ann attended elementary and high school in McCune. She enjoyed a varied career, having worked at the KC Life Insurance and AT&T in Kansas City, MO. She then moved back to Kansas and worked at Commercial Bank, the Ammunition Plant and Mid-America in Parsons, Census Bureau of Pittsburg, and Grand View where she retired in 2002.
Mary Ann's older brother, Dick, owned and operated the Rauniker Gas Station and Gasoline Trucking Inc. Her younger sister, Alice, resides in Fort Worth, TX, and has worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years. Mary Ann has one nephew and one niece and two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
One of her favorite times was when she and her sister went on a vacation road trip traveling from state to state. They started in Ft. Worth and visited Mississippi, Las Vegas, Arizona (Grand Canyon), and New Mexico. The Grand Canyon was her favorite out of all the stops.
Mary Ann moved to an assisted living apartment at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg in 2003. She enjoys playing bingo, watching TV and going shopping. She likes to collect owls and cats. Mary Ann says she enjoys living at the village because she gets to visit with everybody.
