Inez Davis (Oehme) was born in Pittsburg to Stella and Charles Davis on Dec. 20, 1923. Inez had two brothers, Clarence and Etsel. Inez went to school at Lincoln and Roosevelt and graduated in 1941 from Pittsburg High. She met her husband-to-be from a close friend named Bob.
Bob lived down the road from her and Ernest lived down the road from Bob. She went on her first date with Ernest to the movies.
Ernest was also born and raised in Pittsburg and attended school at St. Mary's Colgan. Inez Davis and Ernest Oehme were married on Sept. 5, 1942. Ernest was called to active duty in November to serve in the Army Medical Corps and served in WWII for three years.
When Ernest returned he worked in the construction business, Oehme Brother Construction.
Inez was a hardworking woman all her life. She has worked at HS Kress, Family Shoe Store and a cook for the Pittsburg high school cafeteria.
They were blessed with two fine sons, Glenn and Gary. Inez has four grandsons. Inez said her grandsons started calling her Moni and that has been her nickname ever since they were little boys.
Inez was District Director for PTA in SE Kansas while her sons were growing up. She has two great-grandsons named Coltin and Grant and she is very proud she has a great-granddaughter too. Lyla Inez Oehme and her daddy, Davis Wayne Oehme, were both named after her.
Inez's hobbies include cooking and sewing. There is nothing better than doing both of these tasks. Although she is currently making pot holders for her sons and their wives, Inez enjoys making pies the best.
Inez belongs to the Nazarene Church and belongs to the church quilt group. She is proud of her sons, grandbabies and now great-grandbabies.
Inez arrived at her new home at Via Christi Village in the summer of 2010. She loves the therapy and feels she has made lots of progress here. Her favorite thing about living at Via Christi Village is all the friendly staff she gets to meet.
Inez is a very friendly person who never meets a stranger. She will join in and assist with cooking activities.
