Clarence and Phyllis Woods were married July 3, 1940. This year, the couple celebrated 71 years together. They met at 1st Baptist Church in Weir.
Clarence was born and raised in Weir while Phyllis was born in Coal Valley, not too far from the Weir area.
When Clarence and Phyllis were married, they moved to Pittsburg and have been residents ever since.
Clarence worked for Prudential Insurance Company for 40 years. He laughs about how he made his living talking to people because he was in sales. Phyllis was a homemaker and raised their son, David, who now lives in Oklahoma with his wife, Carol. David and Carol raised four children, three daughters Ginger, Katie and Wendy, and one son, Bryan. Clarence and Phyllis are the happy great-grandparents of eight little ones spread throughout the United States and Germany.
Clarence has strong beliefs of working in providing for your family which he did very well. Clarence has enjoyed being a train collector and has a LGB train from Germany and many others in his collection. Phyllis loved to cook and Clarence loved to eat. Phyllis comments about "having the best guy in the world." When you talk to Clarence he refers to Phyllis as "the boss."
They moved to an assisted living apartment at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg in August, 2009. Both had similar comments about it is a good place to be if you need some extra help or assistance.
