Catherine Gibson is a testament to the faith and resilience of one man - her father - who raised his seven children to be good and faithful individuals.
Born March 10, 1917, in Pittsburg, she has resided in Pittsburg all her life. She was baptized and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Catherine's father was her inspiration; he educated all his children in the Catholic school and walked with them to Mass each week. She remembers one Christmas Eve, they started walking to church at 11:00 pm for midnight Mass, with their father leading the way and making it fun.
"I had a good school life - I was taught by the nuns and they were wonderful teachers," Catherine says, adding her favorite class was English.
She met her future husband, Carl, at a carnival, where her girlfriend introduced them. Catherine and Carl were married January 16, 1939 at St. Mary's Rectory, and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together.
"My husband was a wonderful man; he provided everything for his family and I really miss him," she says. "He was always thinking of me."
Carl worked for the KCS Railroad and was gone on short trips with them.
Catherine had attended Pittsburg Business College and began working at Pittsburg Radio Supply.
They were blessed with three great children, Kathy, Marilyn and Bob. Their family extends to 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Catherine has had great times raising her children. Her children are very special and have accomplished a lot in life.
Catherine really enjoys the holidays when they all still get together and she gets to see her entire family.
Catherine moved to Via Christi Village in Pittsburg at the end of April 2009.
Asked how she enjoyed her new home, she smiled and said, "It's great!"
