Surrounded by a multitude of family and friends, Alma Sloan celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at Via Christi Village on Feb. 26.

Born Alma Marie Shelten on Feb. 24, 1911 to Amanda and James Shelten in Gerster, MO, she has one brother, James, still living in Missouri.

Alma attended Central Missouri State University and received her bachelor's degree in English literature. Alma's passion was teaching and she spent many enjoyable years in that profession.

She was married to Bruce Still and they had two children, Susan and Billy Joe.

After Bruce's passing, Alma married Sam Sloan.

They lived and worked together on a farm in Missouri. Alma's family consists of two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three stepsons, eight step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Alma has been at Via Christi Village on Broadmoor since September 2008.

It was a wonderful event and Alma enjoyed herself immensely, visiting with people she hadn't seen for a while.

When asked what she felt about turning 100, Alma responded with a huge smile, a thumbs up and a "yahoo!'".
