The Alzheimer's Foundation of America has announced that Memory Care Residence at the Catholic Care Center has been awarded the "Excellence in Care Dementia Program of Distinction."
This prestigious honor is bestowed on communities that meet rigorous national standards and undergo extensive evaluation by an Excellence in Care specialist. The evaluations are conducted bi-annually and this is the unit's third time to be recertified as a program of distinction. Catholic Care Center's Memory Care Residence is one of only 29 communities in the nation to earn this status and the only community in Kansas to do so.
When Barbara Walter, Alzheimer's Foundation of America specialist, visited Catholic Care Center, she commented on the friendliness of the staff in the Memory Care Residence and how happy all the residents are.
"We are very proud to again be recognized for our commitment to quality care," says Lisa Smading, administrator of assisted living and memory care. Via Christi Health, a Catholic-sponsored ministry affiliated with Marian Health System and Ascension Health, is the largest provider of health care services in Kansas. Via Christi employs more than 10,000 in its hospitals, senior villages, physician offices and health services. In fiscal year 2010, it provided more than $82.8 million in community benefit to those it serves, including the poor.
