PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita provides a broad range of experiences to assist in developing clinical skills and confidence.

Residency project
The resident is required to initiate and complete a clinical research or practice-related project during the year. The project should be of such quality that the results may be submitted for presentation at a professional meeting and/or publication in a pharmacy or medical journal.

Service commitment
After the orientation period, the resident will provide weekend staffing to the department every third weekend.

Citywide resident journal club
Recent articles of interest are circulated and discussed. Residents present at journal club several times throughout the year.

Teaching opportunities
Resident may have the opportunity to assist in precepting pharmacy students in experiential learning, will participate in presentation of departmental didactic presentations for continuing education, and will regularly provide education to nurses, medical students and medical residents. Didactic and experiential teaching opportunities are available, including a teaching certificate program through the University of Kansas.

Committee involvement
Resident will take an active role on one medical staff committee throughout the year.

Medication Use Evaluation
Resident will complete one MUE during the year.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Resident will complete ACLS training in the fall. Basic Life Support certification is required prior to taking ACLS and is offered on a regular basis. It will be the responsibility of the resident to obtain BLS certification.

Residents may attend one clinical meeting per year in addition to the Midwest Pharmacy Residents Conference.
