Letter from the CEO

In today's rapidly changing health care environment, it is no longer enough to simply provide the best care possible. We must play a leadership role in transforming the way in which health care is delivered. In 2010, Via Christi Health took steps toward this goal.

In August, we opened Via Christi Hospital on St. Teresa - not only the first hospital to serve the growing west Wichita area, but one that is designed entirely around the patient and family experience. Not only will the hospital bring additional growth to the area, but its construction during a recession created needed jobs in the community.

You will read in this Annual Report about our efforts to align with physicians to improve the quality of patient care and increase efficiency in the delivery of care. You will learn about innovative technologies to shorten recovery from surgeries, help older adults remain in their own homes longer and to make health care accessible even from one's home.

In keeping with our Catholic tradition, Via Christi Health's Mission is to serve as a healing presence with special concern for our neighbors who are vulnerable. In 2010 we provided $82.8 million in Community Benefit to the communities we serve, including $48.5 million in traditional charity care.

We are proud of the accomplishments of Via Christi Health this past year and we are confident in our strategic direction of transforming the delivery of care to benefit the communities we are privileged to serve.

Sincerely,
Randy Peterson
