Laboratory

 

The primary goal of the Wamego Health Center Laboratory is to provide quality care to the patients
that we serve. 

Our lab is certified by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and goes through an extensive survey every two years to retain accreditation.

The lab works closely with your physician to maintain the highest standard of diagnostic testing to assure the best patient care.  All your testing needs can be handled through the lab.

• Hematology
• Urinalysis
• Serology
• Microbiology
• Coagulation
• Blood Banking
• Miscellaneous testing

Our blood products are provided by the American Red Cross Central Plains Region in Wichita, KS.


Regular, outpatient laboratory hours are Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.  Laboratory personnel are on-call 24-hours a day, seven days a week to respond to urgent and emergency situations.

Quest Card and Lab Card holders - Monday through Friday only, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Limit hours are to ensure lab draws are sent with the daily courier. Please inform our Registration personnel that you are a Quest Card or Lab Card holder.

What to Expect
When you schedule your test, your doctor should give you any special pre-test instructions, such as fasting.  If you have questions about these requirements, please ask your physician or contact the laboratory.

Testing Preparation

Check-In.  During the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, please check in at Admissions.  After hours or on the weekends, please check in at the Emergency Department.

Samples.  A lab assistant will have you seated in the drawing room where an appropriate specimen will be collected.

Testing.  Once testing is completed, results will be generated.

Test Results.  Your test results will be sent to the ordering physican.  Some tests are produced in-house while others are sent to Mercy Regional Health Center or Affiliated Medical Services Laboratories, Inc. (AMS).  Feel free to ask you lab assistant whether your test results will be produced in-house.  Your physican will contact you with your results.
