Initiatives

Mercy Regional participates in several national initiatives aiming to motivate quality medical treatment, including: 

American Hospital Association Quality Initiative
After meeting with the American Hospital Association Quality Center in 2006, Mercy Regional launched a Quality Committee consisting of medical staff, Board and administrative leadership, and hospital representatives. The Committee identifies and implements quality measures to direct and monitor performance of the hospital overall, as well as individual departments.  

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Indicators
The CMS Quality Indicators compose an initiative to meet best practice guidelines for patients diagnosed with heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia, and to prevent surgical site infection. 

Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Hospital Survey (HCAHPS)
HCAHPS is an initiative to support consumer choice by reporting inpatient satisfaction data to CMS for posting on the Hospital Compare website. 

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) 5 Million Lives Campaign
The IHI 5 Million Lives Campaign is an initiative to dramatically reduce the national incidence of medical harm. 

The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals
The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals promote evidence- and expert-based solutions to problematic healthcare areas. 

Mercy Regional Initiatives
The Mercy Regional Board of Directors and administrative team have established performance targets for Mercy Regional to achieve top percentile performance on all of our quality metrics. As a commitment to not only improving patient safety and quality, but sharing quality data, Mercy Regional regularly reports both clinical quality and patient satisfaction data to CMS, making those results available to the public.
